B.Med.Sci. (Speech), PhD, CPSP, Fellow of SPA, Life Member of Speech Pathology Australia
I have worked for many years as a speech pathology clinician and researcher with children experiencing difficulties with oral language and literacy. My work focuses on understanding risk factors, developing and evaluating interventions, and developing programmes to support and promote mental health for children and young people with a focus on Developmental Language Disorder. I currently hold positions as Associate Professor in Speech Pathology at Curtin University and as the Director of Graduate Research. I led my profession as National Chair of the Ethics Board of Speech Pathology Australia for almost a decade (2010-2019). I was recognised for my work though my award as a Life Member of Speech Pathology Australia in 2016, only the 27th member of my profession to be awarded this Honour. I have supervised 12 PhDs and 3 MPhils to completion and currently supervise a group of 8 ongoing HDRs.
Language and Literacy in Young People is internationally recognised as one of the leading programmes of paediatric research in the areas of language, literacy and mental health, with impact on both research and on clinical practice – something we are very proud of.
